Center at Work: Events

  • December 9, 2008:  Educators who visited high-performing schools in Kentucky and throughout the nation met and shared notes and made recommendations for next steps.
  • January 14, 2009:  A presentation by Center and Duke Energy representative to the Duke Energy Workforce Development Committee was made and final approval of Duke's involvement in the Transition to Teaching Initiative was approved.
  • January 30, 2009:  Dr. George Ann Rice made a presentation on the Transition to Teaching Initiative at the National Association for Alternative Certification's Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
  • February, 2009:  The Center sent Northern Kentucky high school winners of the State of Kentucky's Future Educators of America  ("FEA") State Competition to Denver, Colorado to attend and compete at the National FEA Conference.
  • February through June: Meetings will be held of master science and math teachers along with Northern Kentucky University faculty to design the curriculum program for the participants in the Transition to Teaching Initiative.
  • June 8, 2009: The Center will offer a workshop for principals and their site-based councils, entitled "Issue-Based Problem Solving."
  • June 9, 2009: The Center will coordinate a regional Outstanding Programs Conference.
  • June 10, 2009:  The Center will sponsor a Pre-Advanced Placement Math Curriculum Alignment Workshop at NKU.
  • June 12, 2009: The Center will offer a grant-writing workshop.
  • June 15, 2009:  NKU's Week-long "Kick-Off" workshop for teachers who plan to seek the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards during the 2009-2010 School Year.
